Elder law is an emerging area of law that combines a broad range of topics: wills and trusts, probate and estate planning, guardianship, health care, tax planning, capacity and conservatorship, elder rights and nursing home abuse, and more.
The common denominator is the legal rights, concerns and status of older Americans, a topic of great importance here in Arizona and increasingly nationwide. As people live longer, end-of-life issues like wills and estates have been joined by subjects like long-term housing for the elderly, the future costs of medical care, and the onset of diseases that damage or destroy mental capacity.
At Nirenstein Garnice Soderquist, we take elder law seriously. In addition to our estates and probate practice, we also have expertise in the protection of vulnerable or incapacitated adults and the representation of persons with disabilities in family law matters. Probate matters, including guardianships, conservatorships and dependency actions, are among the services we offer. In particular, our partner Carol Soderquist's practice includes guardianship and conservatorship, mental health and elder law; she is the past Chair (2003-2004) of the State Bar of Arizona's Mental Health & Elder Law Executive Council.
